Well, Happy New Year! Now I’m not going to get into the whole new year, new me speech, one because I’ve already written a post all about my 2018 goals and two, because I’m pretty sure you’ve read a tonne today already, so I thought I would share something a little more beauty focussed with you, and this time all about hair which isn’t something that I would normally focus on! So when it comes to getting ready for a night out, especially one that is for an occasion, although just getting through the week could certainly count as an occasion in my eyes, the last thing on my mind is how I plan on doing my hair! I’m usually far too concerned about what time my gal pals are meeting or what time happy hour ends, rather than how I’m going to spend the next hour trying to style my hair! I have 4 easy go to styles, which all take the minimal amount of effort but all look pretty damn fine so here they are…
Big Bouncy Curls – Minimal effort, Maximum impact
About 3 years ago, it could be 4 but thats not really the points right now, I was sat in my unmatching pjs, with a cuppa tea at hand, christmas music playing in the background and my parents, my grandad and my puppy sat all around the living room watching as I unwrapped the lazy girls hair saviour. My first ever set of heated rollers! At the time I thought they were pretty cool, but I had no idea how many spontaneous nights out they would have been used for! Spoiler, a damn tone! All you have to do is literally plug the set in, flick the switch on and wait for it to heat up! Section your hair, and starting from the bottom pieces grab an individual roller, remove the clip, and roll your hair neatly around the roller and clip it up! And then repeat all over! Tip: I use the smaller of the two sizes for the bottom sections and the slightly larger ones for the top of my hair, for those big bougie waves ya know!
The low bun – The absolute epitome of fuss free hair
Over the summer this was a total life saver for me, there’s nothing worse than wanting your hair to look great and you spend ages curling each strand one by one for you to get way too hot, then way too stressed out because your hot, and all you want to do is just shove all your hair up in a bun on the top of your head, I’m pretty sure we’ve all been there! So to achieve this super technical look, you may even need to get your best friend to provide moral support here, is brush your hair slick back into a low bun… tie it up… spray with hairspray… and you are done! If you want to get a super sleek look then I would apply a small amount of the L’Oreal sleek it to the bottom 2/3 of your hair. Then brush your hair so your parting is perfectly straight and tie it into a low ponytail. Then create the bun you desire, and spritz with hair spray to stop the fly aways. Or if you’re really feeling low maintenance, just pull your hair back in a super undone way and tie it in a bun!
Straighten up – It’s quick, its easy and duhhh stylish
Im so used to seeing myself with a bit of a wave in my hair, that I barely recognised myself at my friends 21st the other week when I went for a much sleeker look! I always use a heat protection spray before I add any heat to my little lob! Again in sections I start with the bottom pieces, and when I get to the end of the hair I tuck it under ever so slightly just to give it a bit of shape, and then work my way to the top of my hair! As I’ve got such a moon head, I can’t just leave it at that, so I always tuck the one side behind my ear and add some statement earings to jazz it up a little! Then spritz with the hair sprayyyy…
Curls – and lots and lots of dry shampoo
Second day, okay lets be real, third day hair and you’re supposed to be going out tonight but, the thought of washing and drying your hair, faking tanning and taking a 2 hour nap all seems a little too much! Prioritise that nap and dry shampoo the shit out of your hair and add some chunky chunky curls! I love the look of some messy, textured curls and there’s no better way to do it than with the Babyliss Salon Soft Waves styler! Plus the barrel is a dream for creating big and loose curls, and the curls last way longer and look even better with 2nd day plus hair, in comparison to freshly washed! I like to leave my hair down and grab random sections of different widths and wrap the hair around the curler and leave it there for about 15-20 and alternate the direction of the curls! But I always, always, always curls away from my moon face…
Until next time,
